Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana) is a summer-growing, stoloniferous perennial, whose runners provide good soil cover for erosion control. Rhodes grass is adapted to a wide range of soils, from infertile sands to fertile brigalow clays. It is difficult to establish and have it persist on heavy-cracking clay soils.
Blue buffalo grass also known as foxtail buffalo grass, is an indigenous, tufted grass with underground root stocks. This grass can have a typical blue-green colour, such as the Molopo cultivar or a bright green colour,
Veld Grass The highveld has predominantly what we call sour grass. They are strong perennials, upright, tufted grasses, which lignify early and so become unpalatable as they mature. The low veld has what we call sweet grasses. They are annuals and weak perennials which remain palatable and nutritious as they mature.
